How to end sewing? End with knotting, stitching, or locking. Conceal the end of the stitch and make it invisible.

To end sewing with knotting create a loop in the thread end after the seam is completed.

To end sewing with knotting pass the needle throughout the loop.

To end sewing with knotting pull the loop underneath and make a knot. Sometimes it is good to make a second knot.

To end sewing with stitching push the needle along the seam.

To end sewing with stitching position the needle tip 1/8 of an inch from the needle entry point. The needle point must remain on the earlier created stitch.

To end sewing with stitching push the needle through the cloth. Make 3 miniature stitches, and cut the thread.

To end sewing with locking pass the needle under cloth near the seam.

To end sewing with locking pull the needle through the concealed cloth about 1/2 of an inch.

To end sewing with locking pull the needle out of the concealed cloth back. Cut the thread end near the cloth so that it disappears inside the concealed layer of the cloth.

Notes

  • Sometimes it is good to end with several small backstitches, run the thread back through 2 stitches, pull the thread up, and cut off.
  • It is also good to end by reversing the stitching over the seam end or by reducing the length of the last stitches.
